SPECIAL REMARKS:

1. Monbukagakusho: (the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, or ‘’MEXT’’) offers scholarships to incoming exchange students who come to Japan via student exchange agreements with Japanese universities and who are serious about, and eager to study in Japan.

In accordance with Japanese government policy, Waseda University is offering this opportunity to apply for the scholarship to incoming exchange students from partner universities in all countries with which the Japanese government will have official diplomatic relations as of April 1st, 2022.

2. This is a scholarship for exchange students. Please nominate ONE scholarship candidate from among the student(s) whom your university has selected as exchange candidate(s) for Waseda University and who will be sent to Japan in fall 2022 under the student exchange agreement.

Waseda University does not accept faculty members or teaching staff that have no student enrollment status at your university for this scholarship.

3. This scholarship does NOT mean that we will be accepting any extra students exceeding the limited number of exchange student(s) we can accept from your university per academic year under the agreement.

Thus, for example, if your university can send one exchange student to Waseda, please assess that student's eligibility for this scholarship.

4. Please be aware that this Japanese government (‘’Monbukagakusho’’: ‘’MEXT’’) scholarship is very prestigious and should be reserved for highly qualified exchange students who have achieved excellent academic performance, and are strongly motivated to study in Japan. We ask you to keep this in mind and to decide whether your exchange student is worthy of receiving this Japanese government scholarship.

5. Japanese proficiency has been added to the conditions applicants must meet.

Applicants need to have an N2 or higher level in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at the time of enrollment. If an applicant has not taken the test, the “Certificate of Japanese Proficiency,” a designated form, must be filled out by the applicant’s Japanese teacher as proof that the applicant has a Japanese proficiency level equivalent to N2 or higher.

(Per chi NON fosse in posseso di N2, deve almeno avere sostenuto due o tre annualità di Lingua e/o Lingua e Letteratura con voti non inferiori a 28 affinché possiamo provare la competenza linguistica)

6. Only undergraduate students who have chosen our Japanese Language Program (provided by the Center for Japanese language ‘’CJL’’) are eligible to apply for this MEXT Scholarship.

Therefore, the following exchange students are NOT eligible to apply:

1) Students who are currently in master’s or PhD courses

2) Undergraduate Studies Program applicants including the One-Year Study Abroad Program at SILS

3) Exchange students who plan to enter Waseda’s Japanese Language Program for one semester only.

7. The duration of the Japanese studies programs will be one academic year, from September 2022 to July 2023 as is the case with other exchange programs at Waseda University.

8. Last but not least, the Japanese government will also be strictly screening the application documents; even one small inadequacy in the documents could influence the results of the application.

Therefore, to ensure that every applicant can successfully obtain the scholarship, we would greatly appreciate your cooperation and patience with our screening.
