Obiettivi formativi
L'obiettivo di questo corso è fornire agli studenti gli strumenti teorici e pratici necessari per intraprendere una carriera nell'ambito della traduzione tecnico-scientifica.
This course aims to investigate the fields of technical and scientific translation, equipping students with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills useful for a career in translation.

Alla fine del corso, gli studenti dovranno essere in grado di applicare le buone pratiche traduttive discusse durante il corso e aver sviluppato un'adeguata capacità di analisi di testi tecnico-scientifici sia in italiano che in inglese utilizzando i concetti e il metalinguaggio del settore. Dovranno inoltre essere in grado di produrre le proprie traduzioni giustificando le scelte traduttive e di valutare sia le proprie traduzioni che quelle esistenti.
At the end of the course, students will be expected to apply the translation best practices discussed during the course, to be able to analyse technical and scientific texts both in Italian and in English using concepts and the metalanguage of the field, as well as produce their own translations, justify their translation decisions, and evaluate their translations and the translations of others.

Programma
Durante il corso verranno affrontate due aree specifiche. La prima è quella della traduzione tecnica, in particolare verranno presi in considerazione:
- manuali di istruzioni
- schede prodotti e documentazione tecnica
- localizzazione siti web
La seconda area è quella scientifica, in particolare ci occuperemo di comunicazione scientifica lavorando su due tipologie di testi:
- ricerca scientifica specializzata (articoli scientifici e abstract)
- divulgazione scientifica
Inoltre, verrà trattato il tema del ruolo dell’intelligenza artificiale nella traduzione e il post-editing.
This course has two main areas of focus. The first one pertains to the technical domain, and deals with the translation of:
- Instruction manuals
- Product data sheets and technical brochures
- Website localization
The second one pertains to the scientific domain, in particular, the communication of scientific knowledge:
- Specialized scientific research (scientific articles and abstracts)
- Popular science reporting
This course will also provide insights into AI-assisted translation and post-editing.

Le lezioni frontali ed esercitazioni pratiche in classe saranno accompagnate da attività di studio ed esercitazioni da svolgere in autonomia.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Durante il corso, gli studenti dovranno costruire il proprio portfolio che comprenda tre traduzioni a scelta tra una rosa di testi che verrà pubblicata sulla pagina Moodle all’inizio del corso. (50% del voto finale).
Inoltre, gli studenti dovranno consegnare un saggio di 2000 parole su uno dei temi trattati durante il corso. Le linee guida verranno pubblicate sulla pagina Moodle. (50% del voto finale).
Il portfolio e il saggio devono essere consegnati elettronicamente almeno 15 giorni prima della data dell'esame. Il giorno dell'esame, gli studenti dovranno consegnare una copia cartacea del saggio, che deve essere identica a quella elettronica.
Throughout the course, students have to build a portfolio that includes three translations of their choice among a selection of texts that will be published on the Moodle page at the beginning of the course. (50% of the final mark).
In addition, students must hand in a 2000-word essay on a topic discussed during the course. The guidelines will be published on the Moodle page. (50% of the final mark).
The portfolio and the essay must be submitted electronically at least 15 days before the exam. On the day of the exam, students will be requested to hand in a printed copy of the essay. The hard copy must be an exact copy of the electronic version.- Oggetto:

Per accedere all'esame, lo studente/la studentessa dovrà aver superato con esito positivo la seconda annualità del lettorato di inglese. Non sono previste differenze di programma o esame tra frequentanti e non frequentanti.
Students are allowed to sit the exam only after passing the 2nd-year 'lettorato'. Attendance is not compulsory. There is no difference in the programme for students who cannot attend classes regularly.
