Obiettivi formativi
Letteratura ungherese: letteratura moderna, letteratura del trauma e scrittrici del XX e XXI secolo
Questo è un insegnamento introduttivo alla letteratura ungherese, un'introduzione agli autori più importanti della letteratura ungherese del XX secolo e contemporanea, con particolare attenzione letteratura sui traumi, alle scrittrici e agli studi sulla memoria, nonché ai film basati su opere letterarie ungheresi del XX secolo.

Hungarian Literature: Modern literature, trauma literature and women writers in the 20th-21st centuries
This course will be a starting course in Hungarian literature, an introduction to the most important authors in 20th century and contemporary Hungarian literature, with a special focus on on trauma literature, women writers and memory studies, as well as on films based on twentieth-century Hungarian literary works.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
Gli/le studenti/studentesse svilupperanno una comprensione delle principali tendenze della letteratura ungherese del XX secolo. Conosceranno i più importanti autori ungheresi del XX e XXI secolo, con particolare attenzione alle scrittrici e letteratura sui traumi.
Saranno in grado di distinguere tra stili e tendenze poetiche e narrative caratteristiche delle varie epoche del ventesimo secolo (ad esempio, modernismo classico, tardo modernismo, postmodernismo, approcci personali e oggettivi, letteratura dell'Olocausto, letteratura del trauma, ecc.).
Conosceranno i principali metodi di analisi letteraria nel contesto ungherese, nonché l'approccio degli studi sulla memoria e sul trauma nella letteratura.
Leggeranno poesie, novelle e romanzi (in ungherese, o in traduzione inglese o italiano) e guarderanno film (con sottotitoli o in inglese).
Svilupperanno una competenza di lettura specifica: un modo resiliente di leggere testi su argomenti difficili e traumatici.
Saranno in grado di discutere oralmente testi letterari ungheresi, di scrivere un breve saggio su un argomento selezionato e di presentare il loro argomento in una presentazione ppt in italiano, ungherese o inglese, o nella combinazione di queste lingue.
Students will develop an understanding of the main trends in twentieth-century Hungarian literature. They will become familiar with the most important Hungarian authors in the 20th and 21st centuries, with a special focus on women writers.
They will be able to differentiate between poetic and narrative styles and trends characteristic of the various eras in the twentieth century (for example, classical modernism, late modernism, postmodernism, personal and objective approaches, Holocaust literature, trauma literature etc.).
They will be familiar with the main methods of literary analysis in the Hungarian context, as well as the approach of memory and trauma studies to literature.
They will read poems, short stories, and novels (in Hungarian or in Italian or in English translation) and watch films (with subtitles, or in English).
They will develop a specific reading competency: a resilient way of reading texts about difficult and traumatic topics.
They will be able to discuss Hungarian literary texts orally, to write a short essay on a selected topic, and to present their topic in a ppt presentation in Italian, Hungarian or English, or in the combination of these languages.

Il programma sarà finalizzato all'inizio del semestre insieme agli studenti e si baserà sulla lista di letture riportata di seguito.
L'insegnante inserirà il programma definitivo con date e letture nel documento di Google Drive e aggiornerà regolarmente le informazioni.
Gli/le studenti/studentesse avranno accesso al documento di Google e potranno commentare le attività.
The program will be finalised in the beginning of the semester together with the students. It will be based on the reading list below.
The teacher will put the final program with dates and readings in the google drive document, and will regularly update the information.
Students will have access to the google doc and can comment on the activities there.

Modalità di insegnamento
Le spiegazioni dell'insegnante si alterneranno a lavori collettivi di tipo laboratoriale e a lavori individuali.
Leggeremo sia testi letterari più brevi per lo studente iniziale in ungherese, sia testi più difficili con l'aiuto di traduzioni in italiano e in inglese.
Le slide del insegnamento Corso saranno disponibili su Google Drive e/o Moodle, insieme ai compiti per i workshop, i testi trattati durante le lezioni e i link dei podcast e video
L’insegnamento si svolgerà in ungherese, italiano e inglese.
Gli/le studenti/studentesse sono tenuti a leggere tutte le letture (poesie, novelli, romanzi) e a guardare i film, preferibilmente per la lezione di discussione, ma al massimo per l'esame orale. La lettura sarà verificata con questionari molto brevi (2-3 domande) regolarmente. Gli/le studenti/studentesse possono saltare 3 di questi test.
Teacher’s explanations will alternate with workshop-like collective work and individual work.
We will both read shorter literary texts for the starting learner in Hungarian, and more difficult ones with the help of translations into Italian and English.
The slides of the lectures will be available in the Google drive and/or Moodle, as well as the assignments for the workshops, the texts we read, and the links to podcasts and videos.
We will use Hungarian, Italian and English throughout the course.
Students are required to read all the readings (poems, short stories, novels) and watch the films, preferably for the class when we discuss them, but at the latest for the oral exam. Reading will be checked by very short (2-3 questions) questionnaires regularly. Students can miss 3 of these tests.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
I seguenti fattori contribuiranno al voto finale:
1) I risultati dei brevi questionari sulle letture.
2) Una presentazione orale su uno degli argomenti trattati durante il semestre (in ungherese, italiano o inglese).
3) Una tesina di 3 pagine su un argomento a scelta libera di letteratura ungherese. La tesina può essere consegnata in ungherese, in italiano o in inglese. Gli argomenti dovranno essere confermati al docente entro la metà del semestre.
4) Un esame orale, in cui si discute il saggio e 2-3 dei temi trattati nel semestre. L’esame sarà in ungherese, italiano e inglese, insieme alle slides.
5) Partecipazione attiva durante il semestre
6) Le attività extra possono migliorare il voto. Queste possono includere la scrittura di blogpost su argomenti letterari ungheresi, la raccolta di articoli interessanti, podcast, post su Facebook relativi alla letteratura ungherese.
La scrittura creativa è un'opzione gradita.
Gli/le studenti/studentesse possono condividere questi materiali con l'insegnante e tra loro durante il semestre, oppure portarli all’esame orale.
Un altro tipo di attività extra che a volte faremo insieme è la riscoperta della collezione ungherese della biblioteca UniTO, che attualmente non è curata.
Gli/le studenti/studentesse non frequentanti devono contattare direttamente il professore del corso per concordare uno svolgimento alternativo degli esami.
L'insegnamento amplia la formazione linguistica dei laureati in Lingue, potendo applicarsi tanto a figure professionali legate alla letteratura e alla cultura di area dell'Europa centro-orientale quanto a figure di mediatori linguistici, redattori specializzati, traduttori e operatori delle pubbliche relazioni, tanto in contesti culturali quanto in contesti aziendali e istituzionali, ivi comprese le istituzioni educative.
The following elements will contribute to the grade:
1) The results of the short questionnaires about the readings.
2) An oral presentation on one of the topics we will discuss during the semester (in Hungarian, Italian, or English).
3) A 3-page essay on a selected Hungarian literary topic, in Hungarian, Italian, or in English. The topics will need to be confirmed with the teacher by the middle of the semester. It can be the same topic as the topic of the student’s presentation.
4) An oral exam, discussing the essay and 2-3 of the topics covered in the semester. The interview will be in Hungarian, Italian, and English; the slides too.
5) Active participation in classes.
6) Extra activities can improve the grade.
These can include writing blogposts about Hungarian literary topics, collecting interesting articles, podcasts, Facebook posts related to Hungarian literature and film.
Writing creative writing pieces is also a welcomed option.
The students can share these materials with the teacher and with each other throughout the semester, or bring them to the oral interview.
Another type of extra activity which we will sometimes do together is rediscovering the Hungarian collection of the UniTO library, which is currently not curated.
Non-attending students will need to agree with the teacher about their own alternative schedule and assignments.
This course broadens the linguistic training of graduates in languages, being applicable to both professionals related to Central and Eastern European literature and culture as well as linguistic mediators, specialized editors, translators, and public relations professionals, in both cultural and corporate and institutional contexts, including educational institutions.

Gli/le studenti/studentesse possono fare ricevimenti (online o in persona) con il professore per aiutare a scegliere il tema della loro tesina.
A partire dall'anno accademico 2024/2025 sarà nuovamente possibile studiare l'ungherese all'UNITO dopo un'interruzione di 25 anni. Gli/le studenti/studentesse sono invitati a condividere le loro idee e iniziative e a contribuire alla definizione di questo nuovo corso di studi.
Coloro che studiano l'ungherese possono entrare a far parte della rete di studi ungheresi presso le università in Italia (Firenze, Napoli, Padova, Roma); in diverse università in Ungheria (Budapest, Debrecen, Pécs); nei Paesi vicini all'Ungheria dove l'ungherese è una lingua minoritaria (Austria, Croazia, Romania, Serbia, Slovacchia, Slovenia, Ucraina), in molti altri Paesi europei e nel mondo (Stati Uniti, Cina, Giappone).
Gli/le studenti/studentesse possono partecipare a programmi di studio all'estero in Ungheria, richiedendo borse di studio all'Istituto Balassi di Budapest. I corsi comprendono lingua e cultura ungherese, studi di traduzione e corsi universitari estivi. (https://balassieducation.hu/en/)
Esiste anche la possibilità di partecipare alle borse Erasmus presso l'Università Eötvös Loránd e l'Università Szeged in Ungheria.
Gli/le studenti/studentesse potranno partecipare al lavoro di ricerca in biblioteca, alla riscoperta dei tesori nascosti della collezione ungherese di UniTO, attualmente non curata.
È inoltre possibile entrare a far parte di una rete di traduttori e avviare nuovi progetti letterari.

Individual consultations (online or in person) will be arranged with the teacher upon request, to help students choose their topic for their essays.
Starting with the academic year 2024/2025 it is again possible to study Hungarian at UNITO after a 25-year-break. Students are welcome to share their ideas and bring initiatives and to contribute to shaping this new course of study.
Students who study Hungarian can join the network of Hungarian studies at universities in Italy (Firenze, Napoli, Padova, Rome); at several universities in Hungary (Budapest, Debrecen, Pécs); in the countries neighboring Hungary where Hungarian is a minority language (Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine), in many other European countries, and worldwide (US, China, Japan).
Students can participate in study abroad programs in Hungary, applying for scholarships at the Balassi Institute in Budapest. Courses there include Hungarian language and culture, translation studies, and summer university courses. (https://balassieducation.hu/en/)
There are also opportunities to take part in Erasmus exchanges at Eötvös Loránd University and University of Szeged in Hungary.
Students will be able to participate in research work in the library, in rediscovering the hidden treasures of the Hungarian collection at UniTO, which is currently not curated.
It is also a possibility to join a translators network, and initiate new literary projects.
For students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) or disabilities, please review the support procedures and accommodations provided by the University, particularly the necessary procedures for exam support.
Students with SLD are kindly requested to inform the teacher at the beginning of the semester, in order to agree on a comfortble and doable learning pathway adapted to their needs. The teacher is familiar with the needs of dyslexic learners and methods that help.
