Descrizione del progetto

Innovative research on the Comic/Graphic Novel and its applications aimed at strengthening the capacity to adapt and self-manage in the face of social, physical and emotional challenges (WHO 2011), according to the role of the arts in welfare (WHO 2019) and in view of SDGs 3 Good Health and Well-Being and 17 Partnerships for the Goals.

The Project aims to innovate applied research on the experimental use of the Comic/Graphic Novel, to create/consolidate the ability to manage personal/collective experience, in order to achieve/maintain the state of well-being and the strengthening of resilience, in the humanistic, socio-cultural and health fields, with the application of the results in scalable workshops (also intended for BA and MA students and PhD students) also in the perspective of professional upskilling (Lifelong Learning).

The objective of the project, i.e., the recovery/maintenance/improvement of the state of well-being and the building/consolidation of resilience, will be achieved through collaborative research with international partners and the definition and testing of original applications of the Comic/Graphic Novel to the described fields. To this end, an organisational prototype with a dedicated interactive platform, research and application methodologies and flexible, repeatable activities will be designed and implemented, enabling innovative uses of the results achieved.

The project is the result of the cross-fertilisation of research and related applications of 3 Unito Departments from different scientific areas and was designed with a strong international projection, together with public and private stakeholders: UNITA Alliance Partners (UPPA, UZaragoza), UValencia, Scientific Associations (Graphic Medicine Italia, whose founding members include Dr. Alice Scavarda, member of the GFI2 Team) and Graphic Medicine International Collective (collaboration with Prof. E. Ustundag, Brock University, Toronto).

One of the main strengths of the project, compared to the State-of-the-art, is the close synergy between different fields, in the composition of the Team and in international collaborations. This will lead to innovative results, concretised and tested through original applications, with a view to the advancement of knowledge and the definition/application of effective solutions to the problem to which the project intends to offer a consistent response.

Through the activities designed and developed within the project, an innovative organisational model and stakeholder-oriented research and application methodologies will be defined, capable of producing socio-cultural impact through advanced, flexible and adaptable responses and replicable initiatives.

Planning and organisation of activities:

WP1 design, implementation and management of an interactive platform dedicated to the project

WP2 census and collection of innovative materials on which to base research and scale up applications

WP3 creation and feeding of a constantly updated corpus (on the dedicated platform)

WP4 research on corpus materials and preparation of applications of the results (scalable multilingual workshop offered at Unito, in Italian, English, Spanish and Catalan to BA/MA/PhD students and in the perspective of Lifelong Learning)

WP5 application of research outcomes through the workshop offer (see above)

The scalability of the research results applied in the workshop will be enhanced by the blended (face-to-face and virtual) delivery/fruition mode. The flexibility of the organisational model, the new methodologies developed, the materials used and the dedicated platform will be strengthened by the possibility of blended delivery/use of the workshop and will ensure the adaptation of the results/activities to the different areas and contexts of implementation/replication, including future ones.
