Obiettivi formativi

The course in LITERATURE OF THE ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES is a BA/MA course on Anglophone Postcolonial Literature. The so-called "postcolonial literaures" or "anglophone literatures" complete the acquisition of knowledge in the field of English Literary Studies. The course aims at instructing students to postcolonial theory and ecocriticism, and at introducing literary traditions related to anglophone countries. In particular, the focus is on the literatures of the Caribbean, Africa, Canada, Oceania, and the Indian Subcontinent, within an interdisciplinary and comparative framework. The selection of authors and texts here proposed will help students acquiring knowledge of the English speaking countries, of text analysis and of literary criticism and ecocriticism.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi

At the end of the course the students are expected to be able to place the authors and texts here proposed in the right geographical, historical, literary and cultural context. Students are required to analyse literary texts not only with the tools of stilistics and text analysis, but also by applying postcolonial and environmental criticism. Moreover, students should be able to create paralles and connections among the texts and with texts of the British canon.
