Obiettivi formativi
L’insegnamento di LETTERATURA INGLESE (prima annualità) rientra nell’ambito della formazione letteraria triennale.
Esso vuole offrire un’introduzione generale alla storia della letteratura e della cultura inglese, dalle origini al Pre-Romanticismo incluso, attraverso l’esame di una serie di testi particolarmente significativi che portino gli studenti a cogliere i principali movimenti letterari nel loro contesto storico. Verranno inoltre utilizzati percorsi tematici che li aiutino a collegare i testi all’evoluzione della società, allo sviluppo della dialettica tra individuo e potere e al cambiamento dei rapporti tra Europa e Nuovo Mondo.The course of English Literature I is part of the wider literary education within the first-level degree.
Its aim is to offer a general introduction to the history of English literature and culture, from the origin to Pre-Romanticism included, through the exploration of a selection of seminal texts that will allow students to explore the main literary movements in their historical contexts. A thematic approach will be used in order to stress the connection between the texts and the evolution of Western society, the development of the dialectic between individual and power, and the changing relation between Europe and the New World.- Oggetto:

Un buon orientamento attraverso correnti e generi letterari, dalle origini della letteratura inglese al Pre-Romanticismo. La capacità di collocare testi e autori nel loro contesto storico. Una visione critica della letteratura come strumento politico, funzionale al potere o di ribellione al potere. La consapevolezza della presenza (anche solo latente) di un nuovo immaginario nei testi letterari a partire dalla scoperta del Nuovo Mondo e l'influenza di questo sull'identità europea. Scioltezza nell'esposizione e argomentazione di contenuti letterari e critici.
A good orientation through the literary genres and movements, from the origin of English literature to Pre-Romanticism. The ability to place texts and authors in their historical contexts. A critical approach to literature as a political instrument, which can subversive or functional to power. The awareness of the rise of a new imagery in literature from the discovery of the New World onwards and its influence on European identity. L'accesso all'esame orale è subordinato al superamento di un test sulla storia della letteratura inglese (dalle origini al Settecento incluso) consistente in 30 domande a risposta multipla. Il test si riterrà superato con 18 quesiti giusti su 30 (Pass/No-Pass). La prova orale verterà principalmente sui testi esaminati nel corso e può essere tenuta in inglese o italiano. Nel caso la lingua scelta sia l'italiano, si provvederà ad un accertamento linguistico attraverso la traduzione di un passo dai testi.
Per la sessione estiva 2020, le date degli esami rimangono invariate, come da calendario ufficiale. Anche i programmi sono invariati (vedi sopra) e uguali per studenti frequentanti e non.
L'esonero si terrà eccezionalmente in forma orale su Piattaforma Webex. Gli studenti dovranno iscriversi alla prova secondo le consuete modalità. Il giorno prima dell'esame riceveranno l'invito alla sessione a distanza, a cui dovranno poi accedere, dal link inviato, il giorno e l'ora dell'esame. Gli studenti dovranno essere muniti di documento d'identità e confermare l'accettazione del voto tramite mail alla docente.
La parte orale dell'esame avverrà sempre su piattaforma Webex. Gli studenti dovranno iscriversi come di consueto all'appello e riceveranno l'invito a partecipare alla sessione Webex il giorno prima. E' necessario un documento d'dentità per partecipare. Il voto deve essere accettato in seguito con una mail alla docente.
There will be two parts: 1) a written test of 30 multiple-choice questions on the history of English literature, from the origins to the 18th century included. The test will be on a pass/no-pass basis (18 correct answers out of 30 are required for pass). 2) An oral examination in English or Italian on the texts (poems, novels and one play by Shakespeare) examined during the course. If students take the exam in Italian, they will have to translate a passage from the texts, from English into Italian.
For the Summer Session 2020, the dates of the esonero and of the oral exams will be unchanged, according to the official calendar. The programmes are also unchanged (see above) and will be the same for attending and non-attending students.
Due to the Covid Emergency, the esonero will not be a written test but an oral interview on the Webex platform. Students must register for the exam as usual, and will receive an official invitation to participate in the Webex session the day before the exam, with a link to get access. An Identitiy Document is required. The mark must be accepted by sending an email to the professor.

Ci si soffermerà in particolare su: nascita ed evoluzione dei diversi generi, i cambiamenti nelle rappresentazioni del rapporto individuo e società, l’utilizzo del mezzo letterario come strumento di potere o di critica al potere, i riflessi del Nuovo Mondo sull’immaginario letterario inglese.
The course will explore the birth and evolution of literary genres in British culture, the changing representations of the relationship between individual and society, the employment of literary texts to criticise power or as instruments functional to power, the reflection of the New World on English literary imagery.
