The educational objective of this workshop is to acquire an in-depth knowledge of its linguistic structure, history, and relationship with standard Arabic and other linguistic varieties, as well as its cultural and social importance. This will help students communicate effectively with the local population, immersing themselves in the culture and traditions of a specific Arab region. Furthermore, it can be useful for those who travel, work, or interact with Arabic-speaking communities in specific fields.

The course aims to provide students with the theoretical and methodological tools necessary for the study of the Arabic dialect (Middle Eastern).

In summary, the Middle Eastern Arabic dialect workshop offers a deeper and more authentic experience of the Arabic language and culture, opening up new possibilities for communication, interaction, and understanding, allowing students to better understand and interact with cultural nuances and participate in authentic conversations.

Knowledge of the history of the dialect:
Origins and evolution:
Investigate the historical roots of the Arabic dialect (Middle Eastern), its relationship with standard Arabic, and the influences of other languages. Study how the dialect has changed over time and how it has interacted with the standard language and other varieties.

Distribution:
Analyze the geographical distribution of the dialect and the factors that have influenced its spread.

Knowledge of linguistic structure:
Phonetics and phonology:
Understand the specific sounds of the dialect, their pronunciation, and how they differ from those of the standard language.

Morphology:
Study how words are formed and change in the dialect (e.g., noun declensions, verb conjugations).

Syntax:
Analyzing how words combine to form sentences and phrases in the Arabic dialect (Middle Eastern).

Lexicon:
Knowing the specific vocabulary of the Arabic dialect (Middle Eastern), its origins, and its uses.

Knowledge of the cultural and social context:
Uses and functions:
Understanding how the Arabic dialect (Middle Eastern) is used in everyday communication, literature, music, and other cultural contexts.

Identity:
Recognizing the role of the Arabic dialect (Middle Eastern) in the construction of individual and collective identity, and in the connection with the territory.

Relationship with the standard language:
Analyzing the relationship between the Arabic dialect (Middle Eastern) and the standard language, and their role in contemporary society.

The workshop will follow two methods:

- Frontal method: the teacher explains and presents the lesson content, providing and presenting the material.

- Interactive mode, which involves students in the learning process, encouraging their participation, discussion, and collaboration. Through group work and activities that stimulate critical thinking and creativity, and promote deeper and more meaningful learning, as students are directly involved in the construction of their own knowledge.

One 3-hour meeting per week.

The method of assessment will be an oral exam during which students will be asked to discuss and analyze the topics presented during the lessons. The assessment will evaluate the linguistic skills acquired, the application of cultural knowledge, and the level of autonomy in grammatical ability , taking into account the specific context and educational objectives.

The lessons will be accompanied by handouts, teaching sheets, and other supporting materials (audiovisual).

Students who have included the workshop in their career plan and wish to attend for the academic year 25-26 are requested to register online.
The workshop is reserved for Arabic students, that they have studied the Arabic language for at least a year, T2, T3,M1,M2

Non-native Arabic speakers will be given priority; any remaining places may be allocated to native speakers.
Attendance is mandatory for all enrolled students. Students are allowed 5 absences; after this number of absences, the student will be automatically removed from the course and will not be able to take the final exam.
