Obiettivi formativi
L'insegnamento di Lingua Inglese (prima annualità) rientra nell'ambito della formazione linguistica magistrale, finalizzata al raggiungimento di competenze e abilità avanzate nell'uso della lingua straniera, nella riflessione metalinguistica e nel pensiero critico, applicate ai contesti di ricerca e/o professionali. In particolare gli obiettivi dell'insegnamento sono sviluppare negli studenti/ nelle studentesse l'acquisizione di strumenti analitici per osservare le caratteristiche della lingua inglese nella comunicazione professionale e digitale. Gli approcci teorici presentati sono la linguistica dei corpora, l'analisi del discorso multimodale e la gestione delle crisi.
The Lingua Inglese course (first year) falls within the scope of linguistic education and training of this degree course, aimed at enabling students to achieve advanced competences and skills in the use of foreign languages, in metalinguistic observation and critical thinking, appled to professional and/or research contexts. In particular the objectives of the course are to expand students' competences in the English language, and help them familiarize with the analytic tools which will allow them to study the use of the English language in professional and digital communication. The theoretical approaches dealt with are corpus linguistics, multimodal discourse analysis and crisis management communication.

Usare e creare corpora linguistici al fine di svolgere l'analisi lessicale di termini generali o specialistici e individuarne le caratteristiche collocazionali e semantiche. Sviluppare competenze teoriche e applicate per condurre l'analisi del discorso multimodale di testi aziendali e digitali, individuando le strategie retoriche utilizzate per costruire l'identità aziendale o per diffondere "fake news". Inoltre acquisire le nozioni teoriche e applicate per analizzare crisi di natura aziendale, politica e sociale e come gestire la comunicazione in occasioni di crisi. Le attività di gruppo e individuali mirano a sviluppare nel discente autonomia di giudizio, abilità nel gestire la comunicazione accademica e professionale e capacità di apprendere.
Use and create language corpora in order to carry out a lexical analysis of general and specialized terms, and identify their collocational and semantic characteristics. Develop theoretical and applied competences and skills to conduct multimodal discourse analyses of business texts, discovering the rhetorical strategies used to build corporate identity or spread "fake news". Moreover, students will acquire theoretical and applied notions to be able to handle corporate, political and social crises and manage communication in these circumstrances. The individual and group activities are aimed at developing in the learners the ability to make judgements, to handle academic and professional communication and learning skills.

TITOLO: ENGLISH IN PROFESSIONAL SETTINGS
L'insegnamento sviluppa 3 principali tematiche, volte a esaminare l'uso della lingua inglese nella comunicazione contemporanea. Il primo tema riguarda la linguistica dei corpora, i principali concetti e l'applicazione di questa metodologia per lo studio del lessico di specialità, per la costruzione di glossari e per la comprensione delle caratteristiche discorsive nella comunicazione attraverso i siti web di aziende o organizzazioni internazionali. Il secondo tema riguarda la comunicazione multimodale utilizzata da aziende e organizzazioni per la costruzione della propria identità o sulla diffusione di "fake news". Il terzo tema affronta i principi teorici elaborati per l'analisi di situazioni di crisi riguardanti aziende, eventi politici o sociali.
TITLE: ENGLISH IN PROFESSIONAL SETTINGS
This course deals with 3 main themes, aiming at the analysis of the use of English in present-day communication. The first theme focuses on corpus linguistics, its main concepts and the application of this methodology to the study of specialized vocabulary, to the making of specialized glossaries and to the understanding of the discourse strategies adopted by companies or organizations in web communication. The second theme deals with mutimodal communication of companies and organizations for the construction of their own identity or for the spread of "fake news". The third theme addresses the theoretical principles developed for the analysis of crises involving companies, political and social events.

Modalità di insegnamento
Le lezioni si svolgeranno nell'aula informatica per permettere l'accesso alle risorse illustrate nell'insegnamento e analizzarle in modo autonomo. Le lezioni saranno anche accompagnate da diapositive disponibili sulla piattaforma Moodle dell'insegnamento. Le lezioni saranno organizzate sia in modalità frontale sia sotto forma di workshop.
Lessons will take place in a classroom equipped with computers to allow students to access the resources illustrated in the course and analyze them autonomously. Lessons will be supported by slides which will later be made available on the course Moodle page. The course will consist of both lecture-type lessons and workshops.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
La valutazione finale terrà conto delle attività individuali e di gruppo durante le lezioni e della loro valutazione in itinere. Sono previste 5-6 prove a scansione bisettimanale (ad es. presentazione con Power Point, test su computer, breve relazioni). I punteggi ottenuti saranno sommati e andranno a formulare la valutazione finale dell'insegnamento. Almeno una delle attività sarà individuale. In alternativa, gli studenti/le studentesse potranno sostenere un esame orale sulle letture dell'insegnamento e la stesura di un saggio, come indicato dal programma alternativo che sarà indicato dalla docente e reso disponibile sulla pagina Moodle dell'insegnamento.
La valutazione finale sarà integrata con il risultato della prova propedeutica di inglese (1st year lettorato magistrale: riassunto). Si veda la pagina web: www.lettorati-english.unito.it
The final exam will combine the continuous assessment of individual or group tasks submitted by students during the teaching period. There will be 5-6 tests, scheduled every 2 weeks (e.g. Power Point presentations, multiple choice tests, short reports). The points obtained will be summed up to obtain a final evaluation of the course. Alternatively, students may choose to sit an oral examination based on the course readings and on a written paper, as will be indicated in the programme for non-attenders by the tutor.

Gran parte delle lezioni saranno erogate in modalità di laboratorio, in modo che gli studenti/ le studentesse possano condurre ricerche individuali o di gruppo. Queste attività saranno svolte sotto la supervisione della docente dell'insegnamento e pertanto conteggiate nelle ore previste.

Most lessons will take place in workshop mode, so that students will be able to carry out their own original or group research.
